Vancouver First half, half marathon 2014

After two years of forgetting to sign up for the Vancouver First Half on time, I had my first go at it on Sunday.  Not only is it nice and flat, it takes you through the best parts of the city.  A sweep through Sunset Beach, English Bay, and loop around Stanley Park and then back again with a nice downhill finish.

8:30 start with roughly 2,000 runners.  Weather changed for the better, with the sun coming out with the rain staying away.  Couldn’t really ask for a better February morning, with the rain charging in later in the afternoon.  I was looking forward to a solid field of runners to hopefully push the pace for me to finally get under the 1:20 mark.  I just squeezed under with not much room to spare.

It was cool to see after the race that the Pacific Road Runners raised 50,000 dollars for the Variety Children’s charity…with over half a million over the years.  Great race and was happy to support.  Good start to 2014, first race in EMJ colours with many more to come.
