Here are more shots of last week just before the show started, going to try to get into the city again soon.  Heading out Saturday to try and get some ski touring in,just out side of Whistler.  I’ll hopefully get some good shots and some possible shots of the village in Whistler if we can find some parking.  I’ll also be adding more photos to theartprojectonline.com later on tonight.

Art and Olympic Shots

by Nathan on Jan.28, 2010, under Art, Beer + ed, regular day BS

Spent my Saturday night hitting up a few events in Vancouver, first was a show and auction held by PUBLIC magazine! in  a cool little space across from the  new Woodwards building.  Some really cool pieces and a good mix of different talent.  Shots from the show can be seen here.

After the Public magazine launch party, we headed down to Chapel Arts for I heart Van Arts Launch Party for a festival that will be during the Olympics in Yaletown.  The crew that put this event on did an amazing job and used the the chapel to perfection .  A lot of  talented artists, as well as a large range of mediums from the music, art, and sculpture.  I was impressed with the overall set up and huge turn out.  They are also looking for volunteers for the festival during the olympics, so check out their site if your interested.

After the night out, headed down to some of the main venue that will house the Olympics.  Some really interesting structures and buildings all around the false creek area.  The hype has  started.  I don’t have any tickets but I will have to head down and see the gears turning, maybe check out a few of the free things going on.  Found a list free music concerts from vancouverisawesome.com.

Things are looking all good. There is the half a million affordable housing.

The non science world, its the center to learn about 2014 in Russia. I think...

Birthday/ BMO Vancouver Marathon weekend.

by Nathan on May.05, 2009, under regular day BS, running

This weekend was a hard weekend to be good. It was my 29th birthday, but it was also Vancouver Marathon on the same day. There was a pretty large group of friends running the full, as well as my mom and another group of friends doing the half marathon. The weather was awesome, sunny but not too hot. We all trainned for about 4 months and all of us dropped large amounts of time, ranging from 18 minutes to 15 minutes.

The course was different from when I ran it in 2006. We didn’t have to run up that ugly hill to prospect point. (halfers did though) 2006 was the first marathon that I did, and doing my research, did it in 3:33.15. This last weekend 3:15.56, getting closer to a Boston time, but still pretty far away. The qualifying time for that for my age group is 3:10.59, or I can wait til I am 35 and squeak in at a 3:15.59. Here is the list.

I really enjoy doing this marathon, a lot of people turn up to cheer and it takes you through many great parts of the city. 2006 had a more scenic route taking you right through Gastown, but also had alot more hills. This year you went through small parts of Gastown, Grandville Island, and most notable , Stanley park. I think Stanley Park had to be my favorite part with a lot of peeks of the water.

Here is a cool little article from Kelly Grant from the Vancouver Sun about their experience.

Here is a video of some crazy dude huckin the thing with no shoes…

I was lucky enough to stay with a friend that lived 2 blcoks away so I could sleep in, as well as get a hot tub afterward. I took a few shots of the halfers running by, they started at 7:00, while we had a 7:30 start.

Labour Tuesday

by Nathan on Mar.17, 2009, under regular day BS

I was out in West Vancouver putting in the basement slab in another million dollar house Tuesday afternoon.  We were way up, about a hundred feet below the snow line.  This house has a view of pretty much the whole lower mainland.  From Surrey Central to Canada Place, SFU to UBC, Tsawwassen to Horse shoe Bay, and Grouse to Mountain Baker.  Here are some shots from the front of the house.

Here is half of what you would see from the third story. Vancouver is in the bottom right

Platerage and youtube

by Nathan on Feb.26, 2009, under regular day BS

Been playing around big time with WordPress and different blogs the last three four days.  I was upgrading the platerage.com blog and switching it over to our over server.  Its now at blog.platerage.com.  When adding some content I found some more video.  Here is our spot that was aired just over a year ago, on CTV.  Straight from the video vault.

Weekend events

by Nathan on Feb.07, 2009, under regular day BS

Spent my friday afternoon downtown Vanouver at the big boat show.  I had gone before and enjoyed it but missed it last year because I was in Banff skiing.  The last time I went, I didn’t venture down to the marina, and man that was the best part.  A company out in Richmond built a 15 million dollar ship and opened it up to the public.  John and I jumped on board.  I didn’t get a ton of pictures but I have a few.  I believe the boat was 150 long.  You can rent it for 1700 an hour.

Here is an article about the ship from the sun.
