September show preview @ the fall

Placing some imagery together for the upcoming show for the month of  September, and had a bit of a slow down.  Ended up shipping a few images off to the press tonight.  See how everything matches up and how well the colors look hopefully tomorrow night.  I am doing something similar to what I did for the show in Calgary but with a little different technique and a few more steps.  :: link ::

Here are the  images I am currently working with and hopefully by friday I’ll have a pretty good idea of an end result.  I’ll show all the steps once everything is put together.

4th show round up @ Arlife.

Pretty solid weekend in Calgary, AB for our big art show.  Had great weather and the drive went pretty good.  We also didn’t have to haul too much art home since we got rid of some inventory while we were there.  Not too much to say but it was pretty rocking and the morning came too quick.  I think the show finally got shut down around 2:00-3:00 am, somewhere in that area.  Good space, and a pretty good location.  We hope to have future shows there, so stay tuned.  Pictures below are taken by Grubbe. check his flickr out!

Show Set up @ Artlife.

We got in Thursday night and hit Artlife Friday afternoon to hit the walls with our Art.  Things turned out really well, and the space was amazing for our little show.  I still have to get show images up but here are some shots of what we had to deal with as well as some of the set up to get the show ready.

Art Show Madness

Gearing up for the big show tonight at 8 in Calgary, arrived in Calgary last night at around 7 after some craziest from the night before.  Wednesday night we had a lot of work to do, from getting everything packed up, to me trying to get my three pieces looking right.  I had some issues in the beginning but got everything ironed out by the time the midnight bell sounded.

I tried to show most of the process of how I got to my final product.  The last step was probably my favorite, after nearly lighting my house on fire.  Wasn’t the best idea to play with fire on a dry treated wood deck.

art from graffitiproject.com

This week was a really hot one, which means a lot of working outside.  Since I have been doing a lot of outside construction jobs this last week has brought no creativity to my head. The drive home is usually  make for some creative ideas, and thoughts and one  great ideas was to make a site that shows all the weird and mess up shit people write in those ever popular mobile shitters.  Well, I totally missed the boat on that one.  Graffitiproject.com has already been sharing this popular art form for a while.  Its just not writing in the honey bucket but bathrooms in general.  Check it out, there is some funny shit.

Charles Marburg added to theartprojectonline.com

This week has been another busy week, we have added another artist over at the artprojectonline.com.  Pretty pumped about his work.  Charles Marburg brings us his talents from New York, New York, and gives us one more reason why one of our next shows should be in that great city.

My Favorite piece from Charles.

Keeping with the art side of things, I did some looking around yahoo a few months back and finally checked out deletedimages.com.  I’ve had many chats with other photographers about the amount of photos they take and how hard it is to delete or throw out the shitty ones.  Here is a perfect example of how those crappy, blurry, or just shitty pictures can be worth throwing up on a wall somewhere.  I’ve wasted a few hours checking out all the images.  Nice and simple site with a great concept, submit some photos while your over there.

Mid-week events, Art shows, logo designs, and photos

Mid week posts are so tough, trying to get something interesting to write about when you are just looking forward to the weekend.  This week has been a really busy week.  From jamming in a 3d project for the vacuum while in Tofino, to getting our latest flyer (sp?) ready for our next art show.  Not sure when the vacuum project will be out but I’ll add it here once I catch wind.  I just poped over to the vaccum and see the last project I worked on was the pic of the week in the beginning of May at Commarts.com

As for the art show, it will be going  from the 17-19 at Artlife in Calgary, AB.  We are also introducing a new way to display art in a gallery setting.  Stay tuned for that…

This week I also been getting photos together for family and had a fun time with my little nephew in the water park today.  Had some good light and some pretty funny shots.  Here’s the little guy in action.

I’m also trying to get my shed all finished up so I can clean up the exterior of the house.  I was too lazy today to do progress pictures but I will probably do that on the weekend.

One last little project for this week was to design a logo for our shirts for the upcoming softball tournment in Aldergrove, which goes along with Aldergrove Days.   June 13-14 2009.

So all and all this week has been pretty busy.

Alberta Bound

I’m heading out to Alberta for the rest of the week, and into the long weekend.  I’m going to document as much of the trip as possible.  The reason for the trip is to gather up as many photographs  for the Art Show in Calgary, July 17-18.

I have spent a good part of my life in this province.  I lived in Lethbridge for almost 5 years while at the University of Lethbridge.  It would be cool to make it all the way back there, since I haven’t been since I finished up there in 2004.  I believe the school has doubled since I left, and I’m sure the program which I graduated from has changed since we headed the first class to go through  it.  It was called the New Media Program, not sure what it is called now but it was a great program at the time.

I’ll stop in Banff for a few days, then continue to head east to the prairies.  I haven’t gotten to many good shots of the prairies so I am hoping I can come back with some good ones.  Looking forward to the big skies and long fields.

I hope to get some good weather, and some good shots.  Leaving Wednesday and hope to be back Monday.

Michelle Fung added to the Art Project

We have added a few more artists on the art projectonline.com.  Most recently Michelle Kuen Suet Fung.  Her illustration adds a new dimension, and flavor to the site giving it a boost in a more modern style.  Her style comes  comes across as cute and original and are stoked to have her a part of the project.  Check her out here.

Here style explained:

She is part of a generation of young artists raised in two cultures and for whom the world is home. Her work, often mistaken as Japanese because of its distinct manga influence, is a visual poem of Eastern aesthetics and Western values, that mediates the sensitive dialogue between the worlds. (She is Chinese.)

30 plus artists and growing

I’ll add some new house crap hopefully on the weekend…I need to buy some plants to finish the project I’m working on now so stay tunned I guess.   I still need to add kitchen shots, livingroom, fireplace, and bedrooms.

For now I’m going to mirror a post I used on the art project.  I believe we are stilling at about 31-32 artist and want to get 50 by the end of March. With that said we are always on the look out for new work.  We have collected close to 300 submissions in total and the percentage isnt to bad.
Sent us your work!

More studio work this week, andno photo time.  I am ready to get the camera out hopefully this weekend, and hopefully i’ll have skis on under my feet.

Kinda been poking around different sites, looking at art and shit like that vimby.com is a pretty sick site with over a hundred plus video of art related content.  Pretty cool shit.  THis one was one of my favorites.
