The Media club on a Tuesday :: Abstract Rude and Busdriver

by Nathan on Sep.06, 2009, under music

Tuesday night after the art set up a few of us headed over to the Media club for some music entertainment.  This venue is so good if you have someone you like playing there, such a tiny thing, its almost like you are at private party.  I was waiting all summer for someone to come to Vancouver that I actually had interested, and of course in doesn’t fall on a weekend.

Show was starting a 9 so we walked over around 10 and timed it perfect.  Open Mike Eagle opened the show and did a pretty good job.  Warmed up the crowd, but the reason I was there was to see Abstract Rude.  I have been listening to his music for a while now and was pretty pumped.  He got things really going and think most of the crowd was there to see his show.   Show started to clean out a little once Busdriver got up but it was worth sticking around.

Once Busdriver got up I was so impressed.  So much engery, it was sick.  Loved every minute of the show, and I wasn’t even boozin.

Seattles Rock and Roll Museum

by Nathan on Aug.23, 2009, under music, travel

Last week while I was in Seattle I headed to the Rock and Roll museum, the building alone is quite interesting.  Admission was 14.50 and I would say it’s worth going, especially if you are a Jim Hendrix fan.  They had a huge amount of Jimmy things from over the years,  I didn’t realize that he was from Seattle.  Plenty of facts, images, clothing and  smashed up guitars.

Two things that really stuck out for me was the large guaitar sculputure, with the second being how well they had their interactive displays layed out.  You could spend a solid few days combing over all the information that they had.  Along  with the music history and displays they also carry other displays.  When we were there they were getting ready for a large science fiction display with a lot of star trek crap as well as a third section for the kids carrying Muppet “stuff”.

flexisonic at le.tanque

by Nathan on May.20, 2009, under music, regular day BS

Over at le.tanque, they have released an album.  I was hit with it on my drive home from Calgary, and my 10 inch sub was booming all the way home.  Very good, and very bass heavy and still being played in my truck.  If you jump over to le.tanque you can snag yourself a copy and piss your neighbors off.  I’d do it.

The crew is flexisonic and from what I know they like music, a lot.  GLUBTCH volume 1.

Rhymesayers and Mac Lethal

by Nathan on Apr.27, 2009, under music

Ah Mondays, my favorite day of the week.  The day you wish it was Friday, especially when you are feeling a little hung over still from Saturday.  That also means I don’t feel like doing much after hour work.  I usually spend my time looking around the net looking for cool shit to read, but I gotta have some new music to keep from getting board.

I was over at rhymesayers checking out what’s happening over there.  The lucky people in Calgary had a tour stop of Atmosphere and crew this weekend. I’m kinda choked that they skipped Vancouver , ah well… I am sure the show was amazing, even if the flames just got kick outa the playoffs.

Another cool thing that I love about this label is that they do an amazing job of spreading their music and videos around,   from Youtube.com, to keeping up their artists’  myspace pages loaded with  playlists.  They also have a  few songs for download, as well as streaming video right from Rhymesayers.com.  I am kinda hooked on Rotten Apple by Mac Lethal. He might not like me saying this but his style reminds me of Eminem,  he has a more realistic angle then Eminem. Good beats, and good lyrics.

Lithium Lips, Slow Down Baby, and Shotgun are a few that top my list

Check’em out.  Heres a pretty good video, that I applied to my weekend too.

Check out rhymesayers tour dates here.  I see P.O.S. will be doing the Vans Wrap Tour, so there might be an appearance from others artists when they hit Thunderbird stadium in Vancouver, BC this summer.  I see 3oh3 is back on, but that’s for another day.

Michelle Fung added to the Art Project

by Nathan on Apr.03, 2009, under Art, music

We have added a few more artists on the art projectonline.com.  Most recently Michelle Kuen Suet Fung.  Her illustration adds a new dimension, and flavor to the site giving it a boost in a more modern style.  Her style comes  comes across as cute and original and are stoked to have her a part of the project.  Check her out here.

Here style explained:

She is part of a generation of young artists raised in two cultures and for whom the world is home. Her work, often mistaken as Japanese because of its distinct manga influence, is a visual poem of Eastern aesthetics and Western values, that mediates the sensitive dialogue between the worlds. (She is Chinese.)

BUCK 65′s new tunes for Free

by Nathan on Feb.18, 2009, under music

Music is key for me to get things going esp. when you have to huck redbull nights that turn into redbull mornings.  Buck65 is a hip hop dude from Canada.  I’ve  seen him a few times and the last time was at the pemberton music festival.

The point of all this…. well on his site if you search around you can get almost 3 hours of free music that I have listen to 3 times over now.  Its fuckin amazing.  Apparently he has a show on CBC radio 2 now as well as touring.  Hes a crazy dude.

Week day looking foward to the weekend!

by Nathan on Feb.12, 2009, under Renos, music

So my week has been pretty stupid, doing production work on the computer, try to keep theartprojectonline up to date.  Wednesday I was working for the family buz doing a garage foundation out in West Vancouver.  I was at this house about 5 years ago.  The man that owns this great piece of work has been working on it himself for 6 years! From making his own doors, windows, to lifting the old house and drilling and chipping of the rock.  Seriously this is one serious working retired man.  The cedar work and craftsmanship is insane.  I hope he gets this in a magazine or something.  Here are the outside shots.  I didnt have the balls to ask to go inside…maybe when we do the garage floor, I will…

FirePlace Time

by Nathan on Feb.03, 2009, under Renos, music, regular day BS

My old ugly fireplace is the last thing to get renoed in the main living room.  We added some cedar to the sides to match up with the rest of the room and now to take the ugly brick into something a little more modern.  He’s a before shot, with all the taping, and getting ready for paint.  1) make sure the thing is clean, 2) make sure its taped off 3) makes sure that you dont buy your paint at Home Depot. 4) i did and one of the cans was a dud.  Sweet!

I’ll at a final image once I have the glass and everything cleaned up…looks a lot better.

Musique

by Nathan on Jan.24, 2009, under Art, music

As I work as a shut in-I’ve been hunting for new music to keep me up.  I have really been into MF DOOM/ MADLIP, the newest being Sage Francis, Mac lethal.  I’m usually rocking out to Atmosphere and a lot of these guys all work together.  Between Stone Throw RecordsRhymesayers Entertainment, and Strange Famous, these guys keep it all away from the major labels.  I really admire that.  They do it for the music and its awesome as shit.
