::Ironman Tattoo #2::

Its becoming a normal activity around this time, at lease around the fall/ winter time.  After finishing up my second Ironman Canada this year, I headed down to i-kandy tattoo shop in Langley once again to get the last bit of pain left from the race season.

I decided to go with another number, and had it stylized to fit with current work already on my arm but also to line up with what I hope to get next year at this time ;)   Tim the artist that did the art work as well as  tattooing and apparently had done a few of the usual Ironman tattoos so he knew the reason why I was in the chair…  I didn’t get too creative with the idea but did like what Tim came up with, its hidden quite a bit but still easy enough to recognize if I explain whats going on.

Here is some images from last years IMC design.

::Photo Thursday…with the Olympus Pen 1::

I probably should have gotten a new camera before I went to New York, but it wasn’t til i got my film developed that I knew the camera I have been looking at for a long time is on sale.  So long story short, I hope to get some more good shots, but will also be shooting a bit more in video…

I’ve stuck with the Olympus brand, and the new camera is the first of the Digital Pen camera series.  I’ve been looking at this camera for almost 2 years, and it finally has come down to a price that I thought was reasonable.  I can use all my DSLR lenses with an adapter , as well as have full manual control, and lastly the biggest plus is that it shoots video in a small compact camera.    With the recent release of the Pen 3 at price over double the Pen1- made it a pretty easy decision for me.  Not much difference between the Pen 1 and 3 other then high video quality and a larger video screen….  I love this camera and hope to get more shoots on the go with it  being so compact.

::Had a sunny day after work, and had to get out and ride. Was out for over 2 hours riding and shooting with the new camera.::

::Loosin daylight, getting tough to get a good solid bike ride in before it gets dark. ...makes for earlier sunset rides.::::The last shot before I had to make it home before dark::::Last one before I had to pack it away to get home before dark.::

::Last one before I had to pack it away to get home before dark.::

This video is compressed by Youtube, but I can still see some pretty good quality.  This is shot raw from the camera and obviously not edited either.  If your in the market for a new camera and want a bit more flexibility, I would recommend looking at this camera for sure,  This article has a bit more background on the camera for those that are interested.

Wishing my oldmans truck wasnt in the shot. Pretty happy with this one.

Not the best shot, but liked the contrast.

Tattoos and Electric Ladyland

Just finished up the outline

While on my visit to New Orleans, I decided  to extend the pain and get tattooed after my race.   I fought with ideas for a while and then went with NO, with an iron work design that you see all over the city on houses and the Quarter.   I had Terry Brown @ Electric Ladyland draw it up on the Saturday, and then I went down and got it done on Monday Night.

I wanted to start pulling everything together into,  the iron work design on either side of the NO  was done to do just that.   I gave Terry a few drawings and pictures for him to work off and away he went.

The main section, really like the old school font.

Mergin from old to new.

Electric Ladyland sits on French Street right on the rim of the French Quarter, apparently they don’t allow shops in the quarter which seemed a bit odd.  I was happy with the whole process, great group that works there and felt like I was in a very professional environment.  I would not hesitate to go back.

Wrapped it right into, and centered it with my IMC ironman ink. Placed the stencil on a angle from the inner arm to the forearm.

Project :: Lightbox

I’ve been toying with this idea for a long time. My grandpa was going to throw out all these slides that he didn’t want anymore, so I decided to save 192 of them from the trash. I came up with a lighting box concept, similar to ones that I have built before, but this one will be an actual lighting box.

I will be making a few more of these as more slides come in and with be for sale on the art project website. Be looking at about 350-400 dollars for one of similar size

The basic materials used. The frame size will be 20 inches by 4 foot. Perfect size for over the fireplace. Also have 2x2 and 1x3 wood for the structural framing. It's already primed white..

Basic frame built with the 2x2 and a 33 inch light and switch.

Glass inserted and is cut to fit the 20 inch by 4 foot frame. The glass was placed in between the 2x2 frame and the 1x3 outer frame. All ready started gluing the slides to the glass. Used a weldbon glue that was a quick dry.

I tried sorting the slides into colours and glued in a sequnced but didn't have enough choice of colours and slides to really make it work. Total of 192 slides, and took about 45 to an hour to glue and sort them all out.

Final result...pretty happy with the final product.
