Music for Lifefest in Cochrane, AB

show poster

Saturday, June 5th is the day for the Music for Lifefest in Cochrane, AB. This is the first run out of the gate, I hope it turns into an annual event. The proceeds go towards the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. I have 13 performers coming from all over AB, to help make this event a success. It is in honor of my Gran, who passed away in August of 09. Although she was 98 yrs old, she had terrible breast cancer in both breasts. I personally know of 5 people who have had the disease; 2 who have passed, sadly, 1 who is battling and 2 survivors! I recently found a lump, had it checked out-luckily it was just a rancid cyst. But, Breast Cancer has almost become like “catching the flu” these days. It is so unbelievably common and so unbelievably unnecessary. I hope and pray for great weather, but even more so, I hope and pray for a great turn out! The only way to fight this senseless disease that affects so many women (and men!), is to do it together! Thanks so much to all of my wonderful family and friends for helping me co-ordinate this event-it will be a success because of their help :)

Weekend Wrap-up.

by Nathan on May.24, 2010, under regular day BS

Took off friday night with the camper in tow, and headed for the Walmart in Penticton.  Got in @ 11 and crashed there for the night, even though they have signs everywhere with by-law crap on it.  Other then a few groups of drunken kids walking through, we had a good sleep, and hit the road.

We took off @ about 8am with the sun and course ready for us.  Goal is to ride the whole 180km ironman course,  and still have some energy for a run on the Sunday.  Slugged it out and finished up at about 2, and was so happy to get off my bike.  Felt really good til about 120km and then had to fight it from the Bear fruit stand back to Penny.  In the short time that I have been cycling, I am really starting enjoy it, the distances and  scenery you cover is awesome.

Two solid weeks of training before Oliver half Iron, looking forward to another race.   It will be a great learning and test for me.

Here is a great write up on the course.

Project:Camper

by Nathan on May.16, 2010, under my projects, regular day BS

Got the retro camper ready for the long weekend.  Heading up on the long weekend to ride the Ironman bike course and watch the peach city Half marathon.  I be spending a few weekends in this bad boy and hope it will work out for the winter as well.  Might add a few more things as the summer moves along…

Added a stereo, Ipod hook up, sub-woofer under one of the seats, and cable.

Project: Backyard

by Nathan on May.13, 2010, under Renos, my projects, regular day BS

Did a final spring clean of the backyard, all the shade from the massive trees in the backyard makes a good size mess of the patio. Did a quick pressure wash, and branch clean up. Added the fence and some lattice work to make it have a little more appeal. I Would like to eventually stain everything but I still have to paint the house…I have a few more ideas and things I would like to add, but most of it will have to wait till the fall. Training is really taking over.

BMO Race Round up.

by Nathan on May.05, 2010, under regular day BS, running

the old bip

Nice wet Sunday but wasn’t too bad with over 13, 000 in the race and close to 1,900 doing the full distance.  Once again the race was well put on, well marked and had more then enough water and gel stops.  Enjoyed most of it but I think the last mile was the best, coming in the 4 minutes to spare and my legs still working.

This was the third time I have done the Vancouver, and it still has to be the one I like the most.  There wasn’t as many people watching this year, but I think the weather had a very large part in that.  Finished up with a 3:06.28 and made the top 100.  Now I am thinking a sub 3 hour might be in the cards for the fall.

Went out at a crisp 41 minutes for the 10k mark and was wanting around the 43 range, so a bit fast, then clocked 1:29.11 for the half and was able to hold on for with a 1:37.2.  Felt good and could have maybe pushed the second half a bit more but overall was happy with the result.  Next up the run for water half marathon on the 30th, but not before a trip up to penny for a ride on the ironman bike course.

BMO night before.

by Nathan on May.01, 2010, under running

Getting music ready for tomorrow’s Vancouver marathon and hoping the weather holds up. Been changing almost daily but the morning is looking like it should be dry. A cool 8 degrees and maybe a bit of wind as well which makes for the usual weather for this race. It will be the third time I’ve done this guy and enjoyed it every year. 7:30 start, same route as last year and hopefully the monkey will jump off my back.

what needs to happen.

What needs to go down.

Going to buck it out fast and see how long I can hold it.

This years shirt. Can you tell?

Good luck to everyone one running.
