Doom Day…
More From nateveldhoen
Ah Mondays, my favorite day of the week. The day you wish it was Friday, especially when you are feeling a little hung over still from Saturday. That also means I don’t feel like doing much after hour work. I usually spend my time looking around the net looking for cool shit to read, but I gotta have some new music to keep from getting board.
I was over at rhymesayers checking out what’s happening over there. The lucky people in Calgary had a tour stop of Atmosphere and crew this weekend. I’m kinda choked that they skipped Vancouver , ah well… I am sure the show was amazing, even if the flames just got kick outa the playoffs.
Another cool thing that I love about this label is that they do an amazing job of spreading their music and videos around, from Youtube.com, to keeping up their artists’ myspace pages loaded with playlists. They also have a few songs for download, as well as streaming video right from Rhymesayers.com. I am kinda hooked on Rotten Apple by Mac Lethal. He might not like me saying this but his style reminds me of Eminem, he has a more realistic angle then Eminem. Good beats, and good lyrics.
Lithium Lips, Slow Down Baby, and Shotgun are a few that top my list
Check’em out. Heres a pretty good video, that I applied to my weekend too.
Check out rhymesayers tour dates here. I see P.O.S. will be doing the Vans Wrap Tour, so there might be an appearance from others artists when they hit Thunderbird stadium in Vancouver, BC this summer. I see 3oh3 is back on, but that’s for another day.
I was back in West Vancouver this morning and took a few more shots from the same house I wrote about a few months back. I had to take full advantage for the morning view with the oil tanker. This photo also gives you a great prepective of the Shangri-la in downtown Vancouver, the tallest building in BC.
Quick Facts:
Shangri-la 65 floors
51,000 cubic meter of concrete
7, ooo tones of steel
Has the deepest excavation of 26m- 3m deeper then One Wall Center
cost 350 million to build. (Canadian)
So its playoff hockey time, or I mean time to get on the wagon time. I do a ton a driving and man I have seen some really funny/ stupid/awesome shit since the play-offs started. From cars with Canuck flags duct taped on both sides of their new van, to brooms strapped on the back of their car with a Canuck flag off the top, to a mounted Stanley cup on the roof. I haven’t been too quick with my phone or I would add a ton of images to this post but here is a funny one by my house. I didn’t get the Canuck part but I did manage to get the flames section of the message.
I think it would be good if we met them in the playoffs, it would be so intense. I have too many flames fan friends, or would it be, friends that are flamers…?
Some really cool imagery from this guy from flickr. Check out some of his other work. Sexy shit!
I was finally able to get out and use my camera this weekend. Had a choice between a ski weekend in Big White or head to the Oregon Coast for a family trip. I had few more pros that made me grab my camera and head to the coast. Stayed at Netarts Bay and did some marathon training to Oceanside a few times with my camera. Not too much else to say…check out the photos.

This weekend I’m spending my Easter long weekend in the USA. We drove by Safeco field in Seattle, one of my favorite ballparks. I usually take in a few games a year and want to take in a few more this year. This is the opening month for baseball and the big event of this year is the opening of the new Yankee Stadium. Its replacing the old stadium that was built 1923, with the new stadium being built right across the street. This stadium is second most expensive stadium at 1.5 billion dollars behind England’s Wembley Stadium at 798 000 pounds. April 3rd hosted the very first game against the Chicago Cubs, with the first regular season game on 16th of April against the Cleveland Indians.
Last year I was lucky enough to get to the old stadium before it wasn’t around anymore. We caught a Mets vs.Yankees game and was one of the coolest experiences. Yankees lost the game but it didn’t seem to matter because there was a lot of Mets fans.
How did we get tickets? 2 months before on Craiglist in New York. We did a little research and figured we got a good deal for 250. We asked around when we sat down at a pub in Mid-town New York (after the game) and the locals confirmed we did pretty well. We were a little hesitant to buy off the net, but we did all the steps to make sure it was not a scam. We had them mailed out once the seller had them printed, so we got them about a month before we headed to New York. It all ended up working out and now I need to make plans to check out the new stadium.
A cool little side story has to deal with Mariano Rivera and Monument Park. He wanted to move the team’s bullpen, as well as to have access to the park directly from the bullpen so the relievers can access it . They added the door and moved the bullpen at his request, he’s got some pull.
Safeco seating at peak 54,ooo
Old Yankee stadium sat just under 58,000, new stadium just over 52,000
Broke ground for new Yankee stadium August 16, 2006
The exterior of new Yankee Stadium was made from 11,000 pieces of limestone.
Kentucky Blue grass surface, same a previous Yankee Stadium.
Total of 227 miles of Ethernet cable that wraps the New Stadium.
Demolition of Old Yankee began in March 2009
The “new” Wembley stadium is the largest covered stadium in the world.
Here are some shots taken from the NY Times of the new stadium.
You sit at home on a friday just after work wondering, hmm what could I do this weekend? Some weekends you just want to sit and hang out at home and not hung over all weekend. Some weekends you want to party, get drunk, run wild, and do things that most people think is totally stupid. The kinda stuff you wake up in the morning and laugh at yourself. I don’t even come close to these guys. They call it Skull X Skull and is the second one. They have all types of crazy stupid events that result in nudity or blood. There is mud, fire, paint, bikes, beer and seems like more beer. Thesse guys show no shame, its freaking awesome. Not sure if I really would want to be around when this goes down but I love looking at the carnage.
It happens in Austin at something called the shitpit. (name fits). Here is a giant list of events from Sucka Pants.
Jumping over the junk car on bikes, only one guy made it.
- Jumping on a trampoline where the windshield should be, until one girl misses and cuts her leg to the bone.
- Mad Dog challenge = Six-pack-attack relay race with Mad Dog booze (equals more colorful puking).
- Obstacle course along the side of the house, complete with flying folding tables.
- A car drove dangerously and aggressively through the slowly dispersing crowd in the street in front of the house, resulting in someone knocking their rear view mirror off. The driver then came back with his mom who was yelling at everyone and calling the cops. One guy’s response was to pull out his dick and pour beer on it. Everyone shuffles to the back when the cops come.
- Mosh pit and metal bands in the backyard, this time with flying cans of yellow and white house paint.
- Nothing is complete without roman candles into the crowd.
- Junk mattress catches fire next to the shack, pee and water put it out (three times).
- The strange band Funderstorm that ran around in the crowd on a megaphone yelling at people to tear his clothes off. He ended up naked (even the fishnets and purple undies came off) and then lit microphones on fire and swung them at people.
- Mud wrestling commences, this year with more friendly mud (less broken glass and rocks, more smell of manure) and mostly mixed (boy/girl) matches.
- Neighborhood kids hammering forever on the car with bats and pipes.
- One dude who was there on crutches had been clocking people when they bumped into him throughout the night. One majorly drunk dude really pissed him off and received a few decent whacks, prompting him to complain, cry, and call the cops (again). Four cars roll up this time, and people either take off or chill in the backyard to wait for them to leave.
- Once the cops disperse, bike-jousting gets rolling.
- After bike-jousting, the grand finale: blowing up the car. It’s done with some sort of explosive device detonated by gunfire. A healthy fireball erupts and the car burns for a while before being put out and re-lit a handful of times.
- Before taking off, the guys from Chief Mag set off a barrage of fireworks inside the car, causing them to ricochet off the ceiling and out the windows in all different directions.

Had a pretty good Sunday at one of my favorite winter spots. Hemlock is winding down its ski season in a very cool fashion with free skiing in the last three days of the year. From the 3rd to the 5th of April with a donation for the Fraser Valley Food Bank you could enjoy a full day of skiing. Sunday started out at -3 with it warming up to 15, had some fast turns from 9:30 to 11:00, then the afternoon turn to slush the rest of the afternoon. Good last day of the year, for a half decent ski season. Many of the bigger hills are still up and running with Whistler having their festival April 17 – 26, 2009.
Decided to head into Vancouver to see the Auto Show at B.C. place. They had pretty much all the automakers there with a lot of local car custom shops showing off their best car creations. I have been to a handful of these car shows and generally impressed with the displays and my more favorite is checking out the designs of the concept cars. This year it looked like the North American Automakers held off showing concept cars for some strange reason (cough cough), which is too bad because usually that’s what gets people interested into going.
The recession hasn’t cooled Toyota, they had a very cool Scion concept, (Scion Fuse) which took a lot of the crowds attention. Simple lines, with a lot of LED light features. I wish we could have gotten inside, but that’s not usual for concept cars. Found some pictures from Scionfuse.com of the interior, but it would have been nice to sit and play with the controls. Its a two door coupe with a 2.4 L engine with 160hp.
Nissan also had a large crowd around their Nissan Cube. I did not find it very attactive, but people want their car to stand out and be different. The cube does that, it compairs to the Scion XB or the Honda Element but takes traditional design and tosses it right out. They created an electric concept (image aboce) but Nissan plans to sell a redesigned gasoline-powered, United States and Canada beginning in 2009. The cube has been around since 1998 and with its release to North America would be its third generation coming with a 1.8l, 6 speed manual.
We have added a few more artists on the art projectonline.com. Most recently Michelle Kuen Suet Fung. Her illustration adds a new dimension, and flavor to the site giving it a boost in a more modern style. Her style comes comes across as cute and original and are stoked to have her a part of the project. Check her out here.
Here style explained:
She is part of a generation of young artists raised in two cultures and for whom the world is home. Her work, often mistaken as Japanese because of its distinct manga influence, is a visual poem of Eastern aesthetics and Western values, that mediates the sensitive dialogue between the worlds. (She is Chinese.)
I have been playing around with Magento for probably the last 3-4 weeks and love so many things about it. So far the best part you can add, edit pages with out using an external editor. It makes for quick page creation and creates less confusion.
I am having some issues as well, so its not all glory. I’m still trying to figure out how to set it up locally because of problems with uploading via FTP. I use Media Temple as my provider and use FileZilla for my FTP. With over 7700 plus files on to my server, I continually get failed transactions (usually the same files) going with regular FTP. I am still new to a lot of this but hoping once I get the store front working and uploaded right I will have more great things to say. I bought a template and hope to have a new store functioning in 2-3 months.
Reason for a Magento Rant?– Its it first year anniversary of Product Release. They Have 750, 000 downloads, and close to 85, 000 users. Not bad for your first year…I still have some bones to pick with them, but over all, I feel this store front will take over. Almost on a weekly basis new templates are released. Bye-Bye, zen-cart, and oscommerce?–Seems like a new kid is on the block.
They also just released version 1.3.0.
